Parsons Parsons

Project Description

In May of 2001, the U.S. Steel-POSCO Pickle Line Tandem Cold Mill Plant in Pittsburg, California, was heavily damaged by fire. Within days, United Riggers & Erectors asked Parsons to manage the mechanical disassembly and equipment installation portion of the rebuilding and rehabilitation project. The time allowed to get the plant back on line was just 6 months.

One of Parsons challenges was dynamic staffing in the field to meet this short turnaround time. Another was ensuring consistent safety and quality across the project. We routed all internal documents directly to the prime contractor and owner to facilitate prompt, informed decisions and short decision-to-action times. To minimize risks, hazards, rework, and misunderstandings, Parsons project manager worked full-time at the site, facilitating communications and project coordination.
