Project Description
For more than 12 years, under an open-ended subcontract to Grubb & Ellis Management Services, Inc., Parsons assisted IBM with manufacturing facilities rearrangement and infrastructure improvement projects at its plant in Poughkeepsie, New York.
The plant manufactures the S390 and R6000 computer systems and provides global support for its network server software. Parsons charter is to help IBM renovate existing manufacturing facilities and create new, advanced manufacturing floors to produce and assemble IBM's many products. Parsons services include planning, estimating, engineering, design, procurement, and construction services for IBM's continuing facilities and infrastructure projects in offices, manufacturing floors, and data processing centers.
Renovated facilities include a 600,000-square-foot data center serving NASA, the National Weather Service, and AT&T. Another recently renovated facility is a prototype design center to demonstrate state-of-the-art e-business operations to IBM's customers. Renovating this facility required a fast-track project approach completed in 7 months.
Unique and challenging aspects of this program include staffing in a remote location and fluctuating workloads, dovetailing multiple concurrent short-term projects, providing specialist services and close coordination, and the smooth handling of local building regulations and permitting processes.
