Project Description

A new facility will help the FAA Western Pacific Region effectively manage increasing volumes of traffic, enhance equipment and software developments, and facilitate the expansion of Air Force control functions in an existing facility.

Parsons is providing design-build services to the U.S. Army Engineer District, Sacramento, to add a control room at the High Desert Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) at Edwards Air Force Base, California. The new 2-story addition is approximately 8,500 square feet. The existing facility will remain in service during construction, and the existing control room will house Air Force control functions.

This project is one of the first for the Corps of Engineers in support of the Air Force and the FAA, the ultimate tenant. Parsons is providing A-E design services and construction support. The new facility has several components:

  • Air traffic control room
  • Electronics/communications equipment area
  • TELCO room
  • Training rooms
  • Breakroom and locker facilities
  • Two-story entrance lobby
  • Conference room
  • Administrative support space

Parsons services included electrical system analysis, fault and coordination studies for the power systems, direct digital control system, security system, lightning protection, and grounding systems for sensitive electronic equipment. Other services include civil site work, architectural design, seismic structural design, blast protection analysis, HVAC systems and associated utilities, plumbing, fire protection, and fire detection.
