Parsons Parsons

Project Description

Parsons is providing preconstruction and construction management services for seismic renovations and repairs and program improvements at UCLA's 1932 vintage Kaufman Hall Dance Facility and Men's Gym.

The projects will seismically strengthen and repair the 1932 structures and provide accessibility improvements, hazardous materials abatement, life safety and building systems upgrades and improve and expand space utilization and building function.

The extensive seismic construction work at Kaufman Hall will permit the renovation of 81,013 square feet and enable the Department of World Arts and Culture to consolidate in one building. A new, 3,665-square-foot theater will be added at the rear of the building.

Improvements at the Men's Gym will convert underutilized, noncode-compliant and inactive space into offices, meeting rooms, and lockers that meet contemporary standards. Work includes the installation of air conditioning and communications connectivity conduit. These improvements will substantially increase Student Services space. Life safety and accessibility improvements necessary to accommodate Student Services include new elevator lobbies on each floor, reconfiguration of the building corridor plan, and new restrooms. Altogether, 103,818 square feet will be renovated.
