Parsons Parsons

Project Profile

In 2002, the Pentagon expanded the missile defense role at Vandenberg Air Force Base to include antiballistic missile operations. In support of efforts to swiftly secure these assets, the Parsons team transformed the missile system's launch control center, the interceptor communications center, and four launch facility security systems in less than four months.

A facility, renovated to accommodate the launch control center, included installation of electromagnetic interference shielding to protect the launch controls from stray radio signals. The site security building was renovated to house the personnel who monitor all ground-based midcourse defense systems 24/7.

The launch facilities' security includes installation of crash-proof gates and fencing, high intensity area lighting, and state-of-the-art electronic security systems.

A high priority for Parsons was maintaining a strong safety culture. Despite long hours and a fast-moving, ever-changing workforce, not a single lost-time accident occurred on the project.
